Ductless Mini-Split Installation

Technicians Near You — Same-Day Service in Los Angeles

A typical single-zone ductless mini-split installation in Los Angeles takes 4 to 6 hours and costs $3,500 to $6,500 installed; multi-zone systems run $7,000 to $14,000. EA Mechanical installs Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu, and LG mini-splits across the San Fernando Valley. Call (818) 988-9060 for a free in-home quote.

Ductless mini-splits are heat pumps that mount directly to a wall, ceiling, or floor and connect to an outdoor compressor through a refrigerant line set roughly the diameter of a garden hose. They cool and heat any individual room without forced air — no attic ductwork, no soffits, no plenums.

We size, install, and start up mini-splits across Tujunga, Sunland, La Crescenta, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, and the wider Greater Los Angeles area, including older Spanish-style homes, Craftsman bungalows, and detached ADUs that were never built for central HVAC.

When a Mini-Split Is the Right Call for an LA Home

Mini-splits make the most sense in three situations: an older Los Angeles home that was never plumbed for ducts, a room or zone where existing central air struggles, or a new addition where running new ductwork would force expensive remodeling. Garage conversions, ADUs above detached garages, finished attics, sunrooms, and second-floor primary suites are some of the most common installs we run in the Valley.

Because mini-splits skip the ducts entirely, they avoid the 25 to 30 percent conditioned-air loss that ENERGY STAR documents in typical residential duct systems. That makes them noticeably more efficient than central air in homes with older or leaky ductwork that would otherwise need replacement before a new central system is worthwhile.

Single-Zone vs. Multi-Zone: How to Decide

A single-zone mini-split pairs one indoor head with one outdoor compressor — the right choice for a single problem room, an ADU, or a workshop. A multi-zone system runs two to eight indoor heads off one outdoor unit, letting you condition multiple rooms with independent thermostats and one outdoor footprint. Multi-zone makes sense for whole-home retrofits without ducts and for floor plans where central air cannot reach evenly.

Brands We Install in the San Fernando Valley

  • Mitsubishi M-Series and P-Series — the long-time leader in residential ductless, with hyper-heating low-ambient performance.
  • Daikin Aurora and Quaternity — strong dehumidification and quiet indoor heads.
  • Fujitsu Halcyon — flexible head styles and very quiet operation.
  • LG Art Cool — slim profile and a wider range of indoor head designs.

Install Timeline and What Happens On Site

A standard single-zone install takes 4 to 6 hours from arrival to startup. We mount the indoor head, set the outdoor condenser on a pad or wall bracket, drill a 3-inch line-set hole through the wall, run refrigerant and condensate lines, pull the system into a vacuum, weigh in refrigerant, and verify operation. Multi-zone systems with line hides typically span one to two days. We pull permits with the City of Los Angeles or the relevant municipality where required.

Rebates: Mini-Splits Qualify as Heat Pumps

Because every modern mini-split is technically a heat pump, qualifying systems can stack the federal Inflation Reduction Act 25C tax credit (up to $2,000 for heat-pump systems) with LADWP heat-pump and energy-efficiency rebates. Eligibility depends on AHRI ratings, your utility, and your tax situation — we walk customers through the paperwork at quote time. See our HVAC rebates page for current LA-area incentive amounts.

Warranty and Aftercare

Major-brand mini-splits ship with manufacturer warranties of 10 to 12 years on the compressor and 5 to 7 years on parts when registered and installed by a qualified contractor. EA Mechanical adds a one-year labor warranty on every install and offers a $129 annual maintenance plan that covers two visits to keep the manufacturer warranty in good standing.

We Install Mini-Splits Throughout LA

Common Mini-Split Issues After Install

Indoor head leaking water
Almost always a clogged condensate drain or improperly sloped drain line. Easy fix during a maintenance visit.
Outdoor unit short-cycling
Can indicate refrigerant overcharge, an undersized line-set, or restricted airflow at the condenser. Requires gauge measurement.
One zone not cooling on a multi-zone system
Often a stuck linear expansion valve at the branch box, a refrigerant balance issue, or a head-level fan fault. Each zone is diagnosed independently.
System runs but blows lukewarm air
Low refrigerant from a slow leak at a flare connection is the most common cause, especially within the first year if torque values were not verified at install.

These symptoms can have multiple causes. For safe, accurate diagnosis and repair, call E & A Mechanical at (818) 988-9060. Attempting HVAC repairs without proper training and licensing can void warranties and create safety hazards.
